What is happening in the cellar?

Harvest is officially in full swing. As of today, we have already picked some of our whites and reds (for our sparkling bottlings), as we diligently shepherd the promising fruit into glorious wine, we wait for our Bordeaux varietals to fully ripen. Our team has geared up, interns have joined us, and our tank spaces are prepped and ready. The press and sorting table have, and continue to, undergo thorough cleaning as fruit makes its way to and through the cellar with each pick.

On the winemaking front, Winemaker Kale is out visiting vineyards, collecting samples, measuring brix levels, and tasting the fruit firsthand. Ensuring that all of our vineyards are picked at the exactly right moment. Given the range we source from, from El Dorado, to Contra Costa, throughout Napa Valley, Sonoma, and all the way up to Mendocino, each vineyard site truly has its own timeline. All of our fruit deserve the time and attention needed to have Kale taste the fruit firsthand before we make the call for harvest.

We don’t want to jinx ourselves, or count our chickens before they hatch as they say, but the 2023 vintage is shaping up to be excellent. At the moment, we expect lots of gorgeous ripe fruit flavors, and wines with real energy.

Photo of 3 Trinitas bottles with fall decor

2021 Chardonnay Napa Valley

“Notes of baked apples and grilled pineapple with hints of honeysuckle, walnut and beeswax. Fine and polished with a medium to full body and refined, lingering chalkiness. Crunchy and mineral at the end.” 92 Points, James Suckling

2021 Sandy Lane Vineyard Red Blend, Contra Costa County

The second ever bottling of this single vineyard red blend, the 2021 Sandy Lane Vineyard pours a beautiful dark ruby color. The signature array of wild briary fruit aromas this site is known for explodes out of the glass. The palate follows in tow, with stunning notes of blackberry, strawberry, raspberry, and la la berry, that are energized by mouthwatering acidity. Everything fans out into a persistent finish that reveals the hallmark earthiness of sandy soil. Fans of red blends, look no further.

2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

“Blueberry imparts a sweetness on cedar, with a calming, exotic accent of basil and balsamic. Leather and slate go deep, a resounding finish of silky tannins with a kick of spice. Aged in French oak, with some Russian and American oak – all 100% new.” – 93 Points, The Tasting Panel

2017 Cabernet Francis, Knights Valley

In typical Cabernet Francis fashion, the 2017 rendition opens with lovely aromatics of rich plum, blackberry, savory herbs, and toasty oak. The incredibly opulent palate is overflowing with ripe fruit. Flavors of plum, elderberry, and blackberry kicks things off, then confectionary spices of vanilla and graham chime in. Everything is carried by ripe tannins and a seamless texture and finishes with pronounced minerality.

2016 Meritage Estate, Family Collection, Napa Valley

The 2016 Estate Meritage is a dynamic wine that showcases the broad spectrum of flavors that can be achieved with Bordeaux blends. A fresh and inviting bouquet of ripe plum, candied rose, blackberry, black currant, loamy earth and vanilla waft from the glass. On the palate, flavors of wild strawberry and blackberry accompany fresh notes of dried herbs and bittersweet cocoa. While this wine is already a pure joy today, it retains the textbook structure of the 2016 vintage, and will continue to develop in the cellar for at least the next handful of years. It is a classic rendition of our Estate Meritage.

2021 Pinot Noir, Vineyard Eleven, Russian River Valley

The 2021 Vineyard Eleven Pinot Noir is our first vineyard designate bottling from this esteemed Russian River Valley site, and it certainly lives up to its stellar reputation. The aroma opens with an enticing bouquet of perfectly ripe red fruits, forest floor, and vanilla bean. On the palate, the wine’s silk like texture treats you to an endless berry medley that’s lifted by bright acidity and accented by delicate baking spices. This is irresistible Russian River Pinot Noir.
